When visiting a country, it is essential to have official documents such as a visa. Similarly, in Indonesia, foreign tourists must obtain a visa to stay temporarily. There are various types of visas available, with Visa on Arrival (VoA) being one of the most popular choices among foreign visitors. This article provides information and benefits of Visa on Arrival in Indonesia.
What is Visa on Arrival (VoA) and Electronic Visa On Arrival (E-VoA)?
Visa on Arrival (VoA) is a temporary entry permit issued by the Indonesian government to foreign nationals. This type of visa offers convenience as it can be obtained upon arrival at major airports or seaports in Indonesia by submitting the required documents. VoA is available for travelers visiting Indonesia for:
- Tourism
- Transit
- Business Meetings
- Purchasing Goods
- Government Assignments
- Business Discussions
In addition to VoA, there is also the Electronic Visa On Arrival (E-VoA), which can be applied for online at the official website evisa.imigrasi.go.id. While VoA must be applied for manually at the airport, E-VoA can be processed online before departure or upon arrival in Indonesia using the internet and a smartphone. The E-VoA is more accessible and has a quick processing time of approximately 10 minutes from application submission to visa issuance.

- Email address
- Valid Mastercard, Visa, or JCB credit card

Applying for VoA
VoA applications are submitted at the Immigration Checkpoints upon arrival at Indonesian airports or seaports. Applicants must present the required documents, fill out a form, and pay the visa fee. Once verified, immigration officers will affix a VoA sticker to the travel document.
Applying for E-VoA
For online applications, visit evisa.imigrasi.go.id. Applicants can download and print the E-VoA before departure to Indonesia. If applying upon arrival, simply present the QR Code displayed in the E-VoA to the immigration officer.
Terms and Conditions of VoA and E-VoA
VoA and E-VoA allow a 30-day stay in Indonesia, with the option for a one-time extension of an additional 30 days. E-VoA offers a more convenient extension process as it can be done online, eliminating the need to visit an immigration office. However, those who initially applied for VoA manually at the airport must visit the immigration office for an extension.
Foreign nationals overstaying their visa for up to 30 days will be subject to a penalty of IDR 1,000,000 per day. If unable to pay the fine, they will face deportation and a re-entry ban, typically lasting six months if due to an overstay.
